The History of Haleakala

Haleakala is a shield volcano that began forming nearly two million years ago. Its last eruption is believed to have occurred 500 years ago. This volcanic activity, sometime in the 15th century, shaped Haleakala’s unique landscapes and diverse ecosystems.
